Accounting for nearly a quarter of the specialty components produced at Chips, armament part manufacturing is just as crucial to our company as it is to the safety of our country.
As a leading gun parts machining company, the components that we supply to this industry range from low to high volume with tight customer tolerance requirements and difficult to machine materials like exotic Inconel’s, precipitation hardened stainless steels and exotic alloys. We have produced hundreds of unique components that support the defense efforts of our nation. We are federally licensed with an FFL and have procured an insurance rider specifically to produce the components necessary with this industry.
The advanced machinery in our facility allows for “one and done” precision metal parts production. This means that each complex metal part exits the machine in its complete, final form. Our part families are manufactured in a streamlined operation, eliminating the need to take the multi-axis machine out of service while the next operation is programmed, this time saved is converted into a reduced cost, meaning the parts can be sold more competitively.
Every armament parts contractor that produces firearm components is required to obtain and maintain a Federal Firearms License. This license is the most abused, on all levels, out of any other type of manufacturing certification. FFL’s are required to be on file with the government, renewed annually and completely recertified every three years.
At Chips, in addition to our maintained FFL, we also purchase additional, customized insurance rider for the specific armaments parts we produce. This ensures, if something were to go wrong with a part we produced, our facilities and our clients are protected. If FFL’s are not properly renewed/recertified or the manufacturer does not procure the correct insurance for their gun parts manufacturing, they can be shut down.
